About This Report
NBI/Michael Sone Associates Canadian Videoconferencing Market Report, 1997
Edition is the second report on this industry from NBI. At 95 pages, the current
edition is more comprehensive than the 1994 report as it contains not only a rigorous
examination of the group videoconferencing market but also extensive data and analysis of
desktop videoconferencing systems and the industry services market, particularly the
multipoint bridging service bureau sector.
The report is divided into 10 sections. After the Executive Summary in Section 1,
Section 2 provides an overview of the total videoconferencing market performance and
includes a specific review of the two major market components - equipment and services.
With information on both manufacturers and distributors, Sections 3 takes an in-depth look
at videoconferencing group systems (the largest equipment market) with data on shipments,
revenues, installed base as well as vertical and geographic market segmentation. Section 4
covers the desktop systems market and videoconferencing services are outlined in Sections
5 and 6. Section 5 addresses network services, which includes long distance and local
access revenues. Section 6 deals with the fast growth business of service bureaus
providing multipoint bridging services. Information on public videoconferencing
rooms/facilities is also presented. In Section 7, NBI identifies the major trends that
will drive the videoconferencing market to a higher level. Profiles of many of the key
companies impacting the Canadian videoconferencing industry are contained in Section 8. A
series of exhibits providing a detailed quantification of various market parameters
completes Section 9. In the final Section of the report three appendices are presented
that provide further information on videoconferencing system components, standards and
NBIs methodology for long distance revenue estimates.
As with all NBI reports, the information contained in this document is the result of
extensive primary research and interviews with manufacturers, distributors, service
providers and users.
